Adventure

The Lost Mountain team will conduct a 20-day field expedition to Mt. Namuli and a 10-day field expedition to Mt. Mulanje in Malawi.

These journeys will allow the team to explore the linkages between two of the largest inselbergs in southeast Africa via vertical access to cliffside habitat. Objectives include:

  • Opening of new climbing routes on Namuli’s cliff walls to gain first ever access to cliffside habitat.
  • Preliminary expedition to Mt. Mulanje, neighboring Malawi’s highest mountain and a critical example of success in inselberg science and conservation.
  • Elite rock climber and mountain guide facilitated scientific access on both mountains via fixed ropes.
  • Success supported by experience and knowledge gained during the team’s 16-day reconnaissance expedition in November 2011.

The Lost Mountain Adventure Team is lead by professional climber and mountain guide Majka Burhardt and professional climber Kate Rutherford. Photos and bios at About the Team.
