The Lost Mountain Reconnaissance Expedition was generously supported by the Petzl Foundation, Osprey Packs, and Outdoor Research. Logistical support was provided by the Mt. Mulanje Conservation Trust and Kumbali Lodge.
Check out some of our go-to gear:
Osprey’s Sojourn is part duffel, part wheeled suitcase, part backpack. It’s burly enough to haul climbing equipment, it wheels through the airport like business-class luggage, and it converts to a pack for load carries in the field. What more could a girl want? Oh yeah, it looks pretty sharp too.
What’s not to love about the Petzl GRIGRI 2? It has all the reliable functionality of the original GRIGRI, with an updated, lightweight, smooth-operating design. This is our tried and true, must-have piece of Petzl equipment (along with our harnesses, helmets, headlamps, ‘biners, ascenders, and ropes, of course).
We’re heading to Mozambique at the start of the rainy season… which perhaps doesn’t sound like the best idea for a climbing expedition, but the moisture will be key for cutting the smoke in the air from local slash-and-burn agriculture. When the scales tip from cleansing moisture to drenching downpour, we’ll at least have our Outdoor Research’s Aspire jackets. Paclite Gore-Tex and streamlined features make the Aspire a favorite shell.
